JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship finale shifted to Chennai
After the success of the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix at Buddh International Circuit (BIC), India's top class F1 standard racing circuit, the final round of the National road racing championship were scheduled at the grand venue during the 26th-27th of November. But due to unavoidable reasons BIC decided to close down the track for maintenance until next year, thus forcing JKNRC and the JK Racing Asia Championships to look for other venues.
The JKNRC will be shifted to Chennai's MMRT Track in Irungatukotai, which being the first ever racing track in India while JK Asia Series has to look elsewhere like Sepang (Malaysia) as the Chennai track is not homologated by FIA to run such kind of event due to lack of proper track safety features and infrastructure.
There is a mixed response among the racing fraternity on the sudden shift in venue as most Indian drivers where eager to get a first hand experience of India's F1 circuit in Noida while some teams and drivers who decided to skip the Noida event felt the shift to Chennai is good for them.
Siddharth Kishore, current Super Saloon National Champion said "Its good to hear the final round is shifted to Chennai. We had decided not to go to Delhi this year due to heavy financials involved and may be we can for next year. Moving a single car to Delhi from Chennai would cost around Rs.90,000/- and we have a total of six cars in our team and its not worth it to go all the way spending so much without sponsors." "I wish to have a good race in Chennai and hope it doesn't rain and i would like to convert my third place finishes to a victory".
As Chennai is preparing for the final round, the championships for the VW Polo R Cup, Formula LGB Swift, Super Saloons and Junior Saloons are running so close and it is expected to be a grand finale.
